Jindalee Practice

Carmen works alongside her clients to help them achieve real changes in their lives by learning new coping strategies, self-compassion and resilience. Everyone deserves to live a happy, fulfilled and peaceful life and sometimes we all need a little support to overcome obstacles in order to thrive and flourish.

Carmen has been a fully registered psychologist since 2010 and has experience in working with children, adolescents, adults, older adults, couples and families across a variety of clinical settings.

Carmen has facilitated various group programs including CBT for depression, mindfulness stress reduction and the Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

She has been trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and a range of other modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Meditation, Solution Focussed Therapy, Emotion Focussed Couples Therapy, Schema Therapy, and Behavioural Family Intervention.

In working with her clients, she does not believe that one therapy approach fits all. In collaboration with her clients and centred around their goals and values she draws from a range of evidence-based modalities to create an individually tailored therapy program.

Carmen has worked with clients who have experienced a range of presenting problems including: depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, self-esteem difficulties, chronic health issues, substance use disorders, learning disorders and parenting difficulties.

To ensure that she uses the latest approaches to psychological support, Carmen spends a substantial amount of time attending workshops, seminars, conferences as well as reading and peer support groups.

Special interests:

Carmen completed her doctoral thesis in 2013 examining the effects of a parenting intervention to promote a successful transition to parenthood. She has a special interest in the area of parenting, in particular the psychological adjustment to parenthood, including antenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety, relationship adjustment, early parenting, infant care and work-life balance.

In addition to her clinical practice at New Directions Psychology she also holds a position as Research Fellow at The University of Queensland and is juggling work and family as a mother of two young children.

Carmen sees clients at Jindalee on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
